Russia's metal consumption to fall 6% in 2024, may continue to be under pressure in 2025

According to data from the Russian Steel Association, Russia's metal consumption fell by 6% in 2024. This decline mainly occurred in the construction sector and the fuel and energy industry, while the automotive industry showed a certain recovery. Metal consumption is expected to fall further in 2025. In 2024, Russia's metal consumption fell to 44 million tons, returning to the level of 2021. The downward trend accelerated in the second half of the year, with a year-on-year decline of 14.4% in the fourth quarter.
